A one year long pilot program has been started in the Balassagyarmat Prison in order to give a chance for the offenders to express their regret towards the victims, and to give a chance to the victims to get their answers – said the criminologists of the program on Thursday’s press conference.Tünde Barabás, head of departement at the program’s professional leader, the National Institute of Criminology pointed out: usually most of the attention goes toward the offenders, while the victims are spiritually severely damaged. According to international researches founded by the European Council, they have a need for reparation, as well as questions they want answers to, this program is aimed to achieve just that – she added. Restorational pilot program in the Balassagyarmat Prison | |
According to international researches, a good deal of victims feel the need for reparation from their offenders, or just simply want to know why they have been chosen as victims of the crime. On the other side there are the offenders, confronted with what they have done, and for the first time, the person they have done it to. This program is the first of its kind in Hungarian prisons, and it will show its results in a year’s time. The program, funded by the European Council, and led by Foresee Research Group is carried out by the National Institute of Criminology.
