KLÍMA+ Expert Seminar

2011. 05. 19.

This major program component of the KLIMA+ project was held on the last day of March with the participation of adult and contemporary peers members of the consortia selected through the tender as well as the monitors of the program.

The film crew of the project was present all through the day, recording interviews for the film under development.

The event provided the participants with a possibility to get acquainted with each other and establish new or more profound professional links. As the leaders of the project, we also found and opportunity to present the aims of the program and our professional concept. Moreover, we concentrated on the following three topics - and the achievement of consensus related to the topics – during the day:

1.       identification and evaluation of the most typical in-school conflicts and the tools necessary to manage them on the basis of the personal experience of the participants,

2.       ideas and recommendations concerning the film and the adjoining discussion material being realised within the project,

3.       propositions related to the preparatory training for the discussion program, questions, topics to be covered during the training.

The lively discussion around the first topic showed relevance early in the day, the conversation on the experience, good and bad practices shared by the participants gave us a useful insight in the difficulties of educational conflict management and its possible developmental directions as perceived by the participants. The individual stories revealed that typifiable conflicts are found on the levels of individuals, school classes, educational communities and the public education as well, and that there are significant differences in the attitude toward conflict resolution by various public educational institutions. Participants share the unanimous opinion that the lack of prevention and constructive management models and practices applied in time and against the extension of conflicts hinders effective problem solving the most. During the discussions of the topic atypical conflict categories appearing both on the school community and the individual level were drawn: exclusion, harassment, communicational conflicts and verbal (or occasionally even physical) aggression.

During the dispute of the second topic of the professional workshop, participants drafted individual expectations and concerns which may also be incorporated in the concept and during the execution of the film.

The most vigorous discussion of the day evolved around the third topic. As the trainings of KLIMA+ adults and their co-working peer helpers received the training in projection pairs, they prepare for meeting and conversing with the contemporary group together, the need for the implementation of the support of their cooperation and the establishment of their joint legitimacy arose with the desire to include the above in the program.  Explicit proposal were formulated with regards to considerations related to pairing, joint decision making, the accentuated responsibilities of the adult during cooperation, work in the own environment vs. unknown environment, the legitimacy and the psychological security of the projectors etc.

In the individual evaluations of closing of the professional day the participants expressed their support for the program, gave positive feedback on its planned elements and details of its execution. They also expressed their joy over the expected outcome of acquiring a practical tool to be implemented in the educational opinion formulation and the fact that they had had a possibility to think together and to articulate their own expectations as well as their fears.

Individual volunteer offers were received for the distribution of the film and the program as well.
