Film, Show & Discuss – new programme for schools to learn more about constructive conflict resolution methods

2011. 06. 16.

Community conflict resolution in school – Foresee Research Group’s KLIMA+ (Climate Positive) programme provides a film & an adjoining educational material. The programme closed at the end of May 2011 with its deliverables helps adult & peer moderators working in the field of school conflict resolution. The two and a half month long project supported by the Hungarian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Crime Prevention Board was concluded by the cooperation of nine partner organizations.

The project’s focus is a 27 minute short film (Intertwined) and an adjoining educational training material, developed with the direct involvement of students, teachers and various educational support professionals. The film presents alternative conflict resolution and communication methods effective in handling school-related conflicts & is available on the internet with English subtitle as well.

The intention of the contributors is that the film will inspire discussions and creative thinking on its own, while supplemented with the educational material they will act as efficient support tools in the hands of their users, assisting the expansion of the method and the birth of constructive consultations in the educational communities involved.

In the frame of the six hour preparation workshop accredited during the project the education of moderator pairs (showing the film and leading the group-discussion afterwards) consisting of one professional in the social fields and one peer member of the student community are realised. In-school Show & Discussion workshops moderated by trained pairs may encourage the non-violent management of in-school conflicts – currently typified by fear and inertia -, may start up procedures necessary for prevention and management, and may involve the parties in the direct solution of conflicts.

The KLIMA+ programme is also aiming at the assistance of the establishment of networks between professionals and peer helpers as well as the realisation of their online cooperation and consultation. The fulfilment of these objectives and the provision of up-to-date information are also supported by the programme’s own website, its blog for trained moderators and future education programmes already open for registration.
